At least 86 anti-government armed militants were arrested by Afghan intelligence – National Directorate of Security (NDS) operatives during various military operations in Kandahar province.
The provincial government media office following a statement said Tuesday that the militants were arrested by intelligence operatives in the past 15 days.
The statement further added that the Afghan intelligence operatives conducted 35 operations in various parts of Kandahar province.
At least three militant commanders were also among the 86 militants arrested during the operations, the statement said, adding that the detained commanders were recognized as Akhtar Mohammad, Mohammad Nadir and Abdul Aziz.
The detained militants were looking to carry out insurgency attacks during the elections day in Kandahar province.
The government media office also added that a group of 3 militants who were involved in planning and coordinating suicide attacks were also arrested by security forces.
